The Ubuntu development community has announced that the fifth Ubuntu 8.04 prerelease is now available for testing. Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 5 adds additional polish and reliability as well as a few intriguing new features. The official release of Ubuntu 8.04, codenamed Hardy Heron, is scheduled for late April and feature freeze is already in effect.

Ubuntu has quickly become the number one Linux distro for the desktop. Not only is it free, but it has also made Linux easier to use than ever. Now, Wubi enables Windows users to install Ubuntu just like any other application, so you no longer have to mess around with partitions, burning CDs, etc.

While I was looking for something that is interesting about Ubuntu, I found this cool application that will install Ubuntu directly from your Windows. No need to do partitioning, no need to smash your head to do the Ubuntu setup, the only thing that you need is, Wubi.

In a previous post I briefly mentioned my experience of using the "Goodbye Microsoft" installer for Debian. Since then Aaron has kindly pointed me in the direction of Wubi:

Wubi is an Ubuntu installer for Windows that lets you install and uninstall Ubuntu from a Windows desktop. Wubi adds an entry to the Windows boot menu which allows you to run Linux.

Wubi is a free Windows front end installer for the Ubuntu operating system. That means that Wubi allows you to install Ubuntu without leaving Windows, just like any other Windows application! With Wubi you don’t have to burn any fancy I.S.O. images to a CD, no worrying about disk partitioning, and you can even uninstall Ubuntu, right from windows.
