Spotifycmd is a command line tool (which even though is called "spotify_cmd.exe", is actually a Linux binary) that can control a running instance of Spotify (in Wine).
The Spotify tray (notification area) icon is well... useless and ugly, so I've removed it from my notification area and I though I'd share the "trick". Please note that I'm using the WINE (Windows) version of Spotify (so it might or might not work with the native Spotify client for Linux which you can currently use only if you're a paying subscriber).
Spotify is finally available for Linux users (native) but unfortunately only for Premium accounts because: As we haven’t found a reliable way to display ads yet, this version is only available to Spotify Premium subscribers. This makes the Spotify for Linux rather useless since there are already a few unofficial Spotify Linux clients out there which also work only for premium users.
This is yet another guest post from RKV. We've seen how to get an invitation for free on Spotify UK and now that you have an account, you must log in using a UK proxy every 14 days or your account gets blocked.
