I had some spare time yesterday and I decided to spend it playing with compositing under Openbox. I'm not normally too fussed about having eye-candy on the desktop; however, a few people have mentioned 3D effects, in IRC and on the forums, so I thought I'd have a go at configuring xcompmgr on one of my systems.
CrunchBang Linux is an Ubuntu based distribution featuring the lightweight Openbox window manager and GTK+ applications. The distribution has been built and customised from a minimal Ubuntu install. The distribution has been designed to offer a good balance of speed and functionality. CrunchBang Linux is currently available as a LiveCD; however, best performance is achieved by installing CrunchBang Linux to your hard disk.
A few weeks ago I decided that it might be fun to attempt to remaster Ubuntu. I've been using Ubuntu for a number of years and while I think the distribution is great, my set-up does differ a fair amount from the standard Ubuntu installation. So, remastering Ubuntu into a distribution that more closely matches my set-up seemed like a logical thing to do.
