Last week we saw how to install Sparkleshare in Ubuntu from a PPA. As a reminder:
Sparkleshare is a tool to synchronize your files in the cloud - like Dropbox or SpiderOak - but unlike these, Sparkleshare is open source and allows you to use your own server. Sparkleshare uses GIT so if you delete/modify some files by accident, you can easily revert the changes.
While Firefox 4 is still in beta and even though it seems it will be released in March, it might actually be further delayed, the first Firefox 5 mockups are already starting to emerge.
Evernote is an service/application you can use to store notes, images and all kind of information (like audio, handwritten or video notes) for retrieving later.
Foobnix, a very interesting music player we wrote about a while back (check out that post for a complete review) has been updated to version 0.2.2 and also it now comes with an Ubuntu PPA.
If you're using Pidgin with MSN, you probably got lots of "omega.contacts.msn.com" certificate errors today. Here is how to fix it.
Because there are many Twitter clients out there, we asked you to nominate the best Twitter client in a comment on a post last week. Today, you all get to vote for the best Linux Twitter client based on your nominations (top 5 nominations).
WatchVideo is a QT application (but also comes with a command-line version) to play, download, rip or convert (to Ogg) videos from Bliptv, Break, CaracolTV, CineGratis24h, CollegeHumor, Current, Dailymotion, Metacafe, Sapovideos, TheOnion, Vimeo, YouTube, and others.
Evernote is an application that allows users to collect, sort, tag and annotate notes and other miscellaneous information.
Spotifycmd is a command line tool (which even though is called "spotify_cmd.exe", is actually a Linux binary) that can control a running instance of Spotify (in Wine).
Roberto @ LFFL created a new SopCast PPA (he already had SopCast packages in a different PPA along with some other packages - for Lucid only) for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat so you no longer have to manually download .deb files and apply a fix to get Sopcast player to start.
The Spotify tray (notification area) icon is well... useless and ugly, so I've removed it from my notification area and I though I'd share the "trick". Please note that I'm using the WINE (Windows) version of Spotify (so it might or might not work with the native Spotify client for Linux which you can currently use only if you're a paying subscriber).
If you've installed Google Earth in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat from the Super OS 10.10 repository or from the Medibuntu 10.04 repository, Google Earth probably crashes at startup.
Transmission (bittorrent client) 2.10 was released a few days ago, and while it doesn't bring major changes, the new version includes several performance improvements
Ooo2gd is an OpenOffice addon which you can use to keep your documents synchronized with Google Docs, Zoho and WebDAV servers. You can either manually select to upload a file to Google Docs / Zoho when you're done editing it or you can select to automatically synchronize it.
GmailWatcher is an Gmail notifier especially designed for Ubuntu: it uses the Messaging Menu, NotifyOSD notifications and preferences sync through UbuntuOne.
TOR was available in a PPA for Ubuntu which has been deleted. There is also an official TOR Ubuntu repository which unfortunately has also not been updated for Maverick, just like the repositories I mentioned above. But the Lucid packages work just fine - I'm running it on Maverick for a month now and everything works.
JDownloader is a a java-based tool that completely automates the downloading process. It can be very helpful for websites such as Rapidshare.com or Megaupload.com for both premium and free users.
