The Indicator Applet port to GTK3 has finally landed in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin. This, along with some changes to the GNOME Panel default settings, finally "fix" the Classic (fallback) GNOME session in Ubuntu 12.04:

The older way of doing this, with gconftool-2 doesn’t seem to work anymore in GNOME 3 – used to be something like: gconftool-2 –type string –set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename “/full/path/to/file.png”.

In GNOME 3 (be it Fedora 15, Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity or GNOME Shell, etc.), you can't move files or folders to trash by pressing the DELETE key anymore and you must use CTRL + DELETE instead. But you can restore the Gnome 2 behavior - just follow the steps below.

Mailnag is an application that notifies you about new emails you receive via the new GNOME 3 notifications system. It works with both POP3 and IMAP servers (and yes, it works with Gmail too) and looks pretty much like Popper (it's actually a Popper fork).
